Pucón and its surroundings
From the lake to the volcano: five areas so you can pick where to start.
Let me tell you why I fell in love with this area: within a few kilometers you have lakes, volcanoes, native forest and hot springs. Pucón is a year-round destination, with long summer days by the lake, colorful forests in autumn and snow in Pucón when winter arrives.
Pucón's best-known sights start with water: Lake Villarrica right in front of town, Lake Caburgua with its clear water, and the Ojos del Caburgua, turquoise pools in the middle of the forest. If you are wondering what to visit beyond town, two national parks are close by. Villarrica National Park is home to Villarrica volcano (2,847 m, with a glacier on its summit) and Quetrupillán volcano. In Huerquehue National Park, the Los Lagos trail climbs among monkey puzzle trees up to high lakes. For more nature, there are the Villarrica National Reserve and the El Cañi Sanctuary, a private native forest reserve.
After a hike, nothing beats a soak in hot springs: there are several in the Liucura river valley and on the road to Curarrehue, such as San Luis Hot Springs. If adventure is your thing, Pucón has activities for every level: the Villarrica volcano tour (check its alert level first), hydrospeed and kayaking on rivers and lakes.
To stay, here you will find lodging in Pucón from local businesses: hotels, hostels, cabins in Caburgua, camping and domes and glamping. Pick an area below and start planning your trip.
